System Integration & Test Engineering Intern
Responsibilities
The National Security and Space Systems Division is actively seeking candidates for Spring/Summer 2023 internships in the System Integration & Test domain. Candidates should have backgrounds in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Robotics, or a related field. Opportunities span various levels of experience, including Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, and Graduate-level candidates.
Project areas may include:
- Development of high-level test concepts, test plans, and detailed test procedures in support of functional, acceptance, and environmental test programs
- Development of test infrastructure in support of functional, acceptance, and environmental test programs
- Development of test software for data acquisition and processing scripts for data analysis
- Data processing and analysis for system performance and requirements verification and model validation
- Functional test and debug of circuit card assemblies using standard laboratory equipment (power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.)
- Hands-on use of large-scale test equipment (e.g., rate tables, centrifuges, thermal, humidity, and pressure chambers)
- Custom test cable and/or fixture design, build, integration, and verification
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and enrolled in an accredited engineering curriculum
- Ideal candidate will be a self-directed learner comfortable working in a faced-paced environment and must have a clearly exceptional academic record
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, are essential
- Ability to effectively present results to peers and management in both formal and informal settings
- Experience working with commercial electronic test equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with the following: sensors, microelectronics, digital design, autonomous systems, system security engineering, mixed-signal electronics, communication protocols, embedded firmware
- Experience working with and interpreting system design documentation (e.g., assembly drawings and parts lists, fabrication drawings, design descriptions, electrical schematics)
- Experience with any of the following tests: Electrical Overstress (EOS), Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), Accelerated Life Test (ALT), burn-in, latch-up, workmanship, ESD/EMI/EMC susceptibility, vibration, shock, pressure, temperature, and relative humidity
- Experience interfacing with, operating, and troubleshooting environmental test equipment (rate tables, shakers, impact testers, thermal, humidity, and pressure chambers)
- Experience integrating hardware and software components for complex electro-mechanical, low SWaP embedded systems
- Experience automating and optimizing test infrastructure and data analysis tools
- Familiarity with DOORS, LabView, MATLAB, Python, SysML, Jira
