Associate Engineer-Substation Engineering

Substation engineer is responsible for the application, design, and documentation of electrical equipment within Substations on the Distribution and Transmission system from 4kV through 345kV within the Eversource-NH system. Responsibilities include designing the installation of circuit breakers, reclosers, fuses, switches, transformers, control enclosures and ancillary equipment. Supporting the project and schedule development as well as maintenance of electrical system data within the Cascade and Thermal Rating system. Functioning as an active and responsible project team member executing the substation team’s responsibilities by working collaboratively with the team to accomplish the project’s and Eversource’s goal and objective.
Typical assignments involve detailed design of equipment installation, development, review or modifications to equipment material specification, layouts, safety considerations, working clearance and ordering material.

4kV through 345kV substation design in accordance with associated IEEE/ANSI standards.

Follows standard engineering techniques and procedures on projects

Ability to prioritize project work for several projects occurring concurrently under budget and time constraints.

Collaborates with other Engineering disciplines to ensure consistency and teamwork.

Collaborates with other departments such as Protection and Controls, System Planning, Distributed Energy Resources, Asset Management, Project Management, Project Scheduling, Siting and Permitting, and Plant Accounting, to support project planning, technical and financial approvals, scheduling, regulatory submittals and interrogatories, and project closeout

Ensures that the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution substations are completed accurately and in accordance with internal and industry standards.

Responsible for the development and approval of project scopes, engineering designs, details, material lists and ordering, and documents required for creation of project cost estimates.

Responsible for the development and update of equipment specifications, participation in equipment RFP process, and review/approval of manufacturers’ drawings and documentation.

Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.

Supports emergent and/or equipment failures as necessary to support operations and maintenance

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is required. Other requirements include strong analytical/computer skills, and an aptitude for detailed engineering. The ideal candidate will also have a power engineering background, and be familiar with substation engineering concepts and principles. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Will have storm restoration and emergency assignments.
