Internship - Plant Operations Engineer

Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
This supervised position will allow for a college student who is seeking a career in the power industry to apply as well as enhance their knowledge with regard to all aspects of power plant operations. This position will require the individual to work a normal day shift and will report to the Operations Manager at the Calpine Westbrook Energy Center.
Job Responsibilities
  • Utilizing plant data systems to access equipment performance and reliability
  • Updating maintenance documentation and work management system
  • Assist plant staff with special projects as needed.
  • Assist with mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks, inspections, and troubleshooting while under direct supervision by a qualified Calpine Employee.
  • Assist operations with daily water chemistry testing and analysis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned while under the direct supervision of a Calpine employee.
  • Report to Operations Manager and take day-to-day instructions, both written and verbal.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum qualifications include completion of sophomore year and at least 30 credit hours towards bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • In good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States now and in the future for any company.
  • Must have strong skills in Microsoft Office i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Must be flexible and able to work harmoniously with others
  • Good organization skills and attention to details are essential
  • Good problem solving and analytical ability
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
 
Additional Calpine Information
Vaccination Information: Calpine requires an individual who is newly hired into this position to be vaccinated for COVID-19 within the first 28 days of employment - if not already vaccinated prior to starting employment.
