More specifically, the individual will focus on developing, validating, and executing charge detection MS-based assays to evaluate antibody therapeutics from both in vitro and in vivo studies to support lead-finding/optimization efforts with the help of an established network of industry and academic collaborators. In addition, the candidate will function as part of a multi-disciplinary project team that will coordinate with groups in other departments to advance the lead molecules of the projects. This position is intended to provide industry experience for recent M.S. or Ph.D. graduates/postdocs who are considering transitioning into the industry and want to learn about drug discovery at Genentech.

The qualified individual will possess a M.S. or Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or related discipline with 2-4 years of mass spectrometry experience in academia, biotechnology, and/or pharmaceutical industry. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Orbitrap mass spectrometry. Experience with charge detection mass spectrometry, while not required, is a plus. Experience with affinity capture, while not required, is a plus. Familiarity with automated or semi-automated instrumentation, while not required, would be advantageous, as would familiarity with the multi-disciplinary activities of antibody lead profiling. The position requires good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team. It also requires excellent time management and organizational skills.
