Description
Gryphon Scientific is seeking applicants for Research Assistant (RA) positions supporting research coordination and communication programs for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). At Gryphon, you will collaborate on science communications and outreach projects to foster information exchange amongst clinical and translational scientists, public health and medical practitioners, patient communities, and federal agencies. A core aspect of the work involves collection and curation of information from stakeholders, published literature, and other sources to support research consortium activities and engagement of diverse audiences. RAs will work with senior staff at Gryphon to hone skills in science and health communication through creation of infographics, social media content, web content, plain language scientific reports, and meeting summaries. Projects involve collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and incorporate meeting support, science writing, data visualization, analytics, and user-centered design. At Gryphon, RAs hired to this position will provide program coordination and communications services to help advance the development of innovative medical and operational interventions addressing human health threats as part of coordination and communication programs for a high-profile NIH-funded research consortia. The available positions will primarily support projects in Gryphon’s Data Management and Communications practice, but staff may have the opportunity to work on projects in other practices. (Note, you will not be involved in laboratory work; there is no lab on the premises.)
Duties:
  • Gain familiarity and understanding of topics including but not limited to federally funded research consortia, clinical and translational sciences, biomedicine, biotechnology, and/or public health
  • Support creation of newsletters, web content, social media content, articles, figures, infographics, and other written and visual products to convey data and information to the scientific, clinical, government, and patient communities
  • Support UI/UX and web design tasks, emphasizing user-centered design principles
  • Perform project-related logistics and support functions, including note-taking during meetings, email correspondence, document management, and communications to various stakeholders
  • Support outreach and engagement activities with various stakeholder groups
  • Prepare presentations for various stakeholder groups
  • Collect and abstract information from peer-reviewed literature, grey literature, social media, and other sources for various strategic coordination and analytic tasks
  • Provide status updates to project managers and team members and coordinate across multidisciplinary teams

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a life or biomedical science discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Public Health, or a related field)
  • GPA 3.0 or higher (out of 4.0) during final two years of college
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government client requirements

Required Skills:
  • Experience or training in biomedical, clinical, or translational science
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to apply knowledge of scientific concepts to communicate across a variety of topic areas and for web and print products
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow processes and standard operating procedures
  • Ability to communicate clearly and without errors both in writing (e.g., email correspondence, scientific writing, posts) and verbally (e.g., stakeholder interactions)
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take trainings as needed
Additional Skills and Experience:
  • Proficiency in Excel or Tableau
  • Proficiency in Adobe software, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat
  • Experience or training in user-centered design, web design, and UI/UX
  • Experience creating and distributing newsletters, social media campaigns, blogs, or web content
  • Experience in science, health, or risk communications
  • Experience coordinating virtual and in-person meetings with diverse stakeholders

Salary Range: $40,000 - $44,000
