Internship - Power Operations Engineer

Calpine Corporation is America's largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources with operations in competitive power markets. Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
This supervised position will allow for a college student who is seeking a career in the power industry to apply as well as enhance their knowledge with regard to all aspects of power plant operations. This position will require the individual to work a normal day shift and will report to the Operations Manager at the Calpine Granite Ridge Energy Center. 

Job Responsibilities
  • Utilizing plant data systems to access equipment performance and reliability
  • Updating maintenance documentation and work management system
  • Assist plant staff with special projects as needed.
  • Assist with mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks, inspections, and troubleshooting while under direct supervision by a qualified Calpine Employee.
  • Assist operations with daily water chemistry testing and analysis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned while under the direct supervision of a Calpine employee.
  • Report to Operations Manager and take day-to-day instructions, both written and verbal.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum qualifications include completion of sophomore year and at least 30 credit hours towards bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • In good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States now and in the future for any company.
  • Must have strong skills in Microsoft Office i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Must be flexible and able to work harmoniously with others
  • Good organization skills and attention to details are essential
  • Good problem solving and analytical ability
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
Additional Calpine Information:
