Hydrographic Technician I - Offshore Position

Position Summary

 
The Hydrographic Technician I will assist with operating AUV and Geophysical and Geotechnical equipment in a safe and efficient manner, and maintaining and repairing all electronic, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems and sub-systems associated with same including component repair, replacement, and troubleshooting.
 

Duties & Responsibilities

 
ESSENTIAL
  • Learning to operate equipment to include cameras (video and still), acoustic positioning systems, sonars, manipulators (robotic arms), LARS (Launch and Recovery Systems), hydraulic power units, complex subsea tooling, surface, and subsea workover systems.
  • Learning to perform maintenance/repairs on equipment: maintain/ repair electronics, maintain/ repair hydraulics, maintain/repair mechanics, use test equipment, calibrate, and align equipment, and perform general housekeeping and corrosion control.
  • Learning to operate and interface sub-sea navigational equipment including but not limited to magnetic compass, gyro, transducer, sonar, altimeter, and associated survey equipment.
  • Develop knowledge of Hydrographic Surveyor data collection and analysis process.
  • Assist with the Hydrographic Surveyor daily tasks when needed.
  • Assist in the maintains parts and supplies inventory associated with all electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic assemblies and subassemblies                                                                           
NON-ESSENTIAL
  • Assisting with and maintaining reports
  • Understanding of AUV technical operations
  • All other duties assigned

  • This position has no direct reports

Qualifications

 
REQUIRED
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • 0 - 1 years’ experience in the Survey or Geoscience industry as a Survey Professional
  • Must have or be able to obtain TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Must have or be able to obtain a COVID Vaccination
  • Must be proficient with with mechanical and electrical equipment
DESIRED
  • Two (2) year Technical Degree or higher in field of study preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent desired
  • Current security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance

Additional Information

 
WORKING CONDITIONS                                                                                                          
This position is considered OFFSHORE which is characterized as follows. 
  • Outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over/near water.
  • Requires working on or near moving and vibrating equipment.
  • Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85db and the light is intense/glare.
  • Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
  • Constant exposure to airborne dust, fumes and gases.
  • Work surface is stable, height is elevated.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/REQUIREMENTS

OCCASIONAL
  • Lift 50-100 pounds
