Cage Washer Technician
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world-renowned research and educational institution, is seeking an individual for the position of Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician/ Cage Washer Technician to uphold strict animal facilities sanitary guidelines and perform daily activities to maintain a clean laboratory environment throughout the facility.
Responsibilities include:
-Operates autoclave to sterilize or decontaminate caging equipment. Assist in receiving and storing materials, food and supplies.
-Performs routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting including washer maintenance, monitoring equipment for proper functioning and maintaining sanitary conditions and daily records.
-Maintain sanitary conditions of cage washing rooms and other ancillary areas, such as hallways and storage areas.
-Understand and follow appropriate SOPs, safety procedures, and quality assurance guidelines.
-Prepare and submit required cagewash records, charts, logs, and inventories as requested.
-Uses chemical cleaners, detergents, and disinfectants in sanitation of equipment and premises.
-Maintain clean and organized work and personal areas.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
-This position provides valuable entry level to working in Laboratory Animal Science, with many various options for growth.
Position Requirements
Education: High school or equivalent.
Experience: Experience working with or around laboratory animals is preferred.
Physical: Must be able to lift and carry fifty pounds. This position requires standing most of the day.
Environmental: Must feel comfortable working around laboratory animals and in areas with elevated environmental noise levels.
Well organized, detail oriented, and adaptable to changes
Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions. Ability to read and write in order to maintain records, read instructions, labels, etc.
Other requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license; use of personal vehicle required. Ability to work occasional overtime, weekends and holidays.
