Environmental/Civil Engineer - Hydrogeologist (Remote Anywhere in the U.S.)

Job Description
We are currently seeking an experienced Environmental/Civil Engineer or Hydrogeologist in the Environmental Engineering and Economics (EEE) Division at RTI. Ideally, the candidate will have a background in environmental modeling and measurements with an emphasis on soil and groundwater and other contaminated media. Strong problem solving and analytical skills, computer skills, and a solid understanding of environmental fate and transport; exposure modeling and analysis is desired. The candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers in the development, application and documentation of environmental modeling and measurements that support exposure assessments, human and ecological risk assessments, resource and waste management actions, and the assessment and cleanup of contaminated sites. The preparation of technical proposals, presentations, documentation, and publications is an important aspect of the position.
 
This position may be based remotely or out of one of RTI’s U.S. offices, preferably our headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC or our Washington, DC location.

Qualifications   
•   The successful candidate must have at a minimum a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, Geology, Applied Mathematics (or related scientific discipline) with 6 years of related experience and expertise in the assessment and prediction of contaminant fate and transport in the environment with an emphasis on soils and the subsurface. 
•   Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills are essential requirements for this position, as is the willingness to collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams.
•   Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively both as part of a project team and independently are required.
•   The ideal candidate will have strong computer and programming skills, experience with GIS and database systems and their use in environmental modeling. 
•   To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment status.
 
Desired Qualifications
•   An understanding of human and ecological risk modeling, including the understanding and use of empirical measurements (i.e., sampling and analysis) in support of model results.
•   An in-depth understanding of how empirically measured and modeled contaminant exposures support risk analyses and site-based decision-making.
•   Scientific programming experience in Java, C++, C#, Python, R, FORTRAN, MATLAB, VB/VBA
•   Working familiarity with EPA regulations and the Agency’s regulatory models and QA/QC methodologies developed and applied under these acts.
•   Interest in project management or Project Management Professional PMP certification is a plus.
