Amazon Robotics - Sensor System Development Co-op - Spring 2023

This role is a 6 month co-op to join AR full time (40 hours/week) from January - June 2023. Come join us in North Reading, MA, or in our newly expanded innovation hub in Westborough, MA!


Both campuses provide a unique opportunity for co-ops to have direct access to robotics testing labs and manufacturing facilities. Remote and hybrid flexibility is available for this role.

Amazon Robotics automates fulfillment center operations using various methods of robotic technology including autonomous mobile robots, sophisticated control software, language perception, power management, computer vision, depth sensing, machine learning, object recognition, and semantic understanding of commands. Amazon Robotics has a dedicated focus on research and development to continuously explore new opportunities to extend its product lines into new areas.

Amazon Robotics Sensor Team is seeking a system development engineering co-op to assist with sensor system development and testing. The ideal candidate will have had experience with and interest in sensor technologies, possess good communication skills, and enjoy problem solving both independently and in team settings.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Assist an interdisciplinary team of engineers in the execution of product designs from concept to production including design, prototyping, validation, and integration.
  • Develop sensor characterization procedures and automated test solutions.
  • Drive experiments, data collection, perform system/sub-system level testing and evaluation.

Basic qualifications
  • Currently working towards a BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a similar field and must have at least one semester of school left to complete after the end of the co-op
  • Must be eligible and available for a full-time (40h / week) role from January-June 2023
  • Classroom and project experience in developing embedded systems, and/or sensor systems
  • Working knowledge and experience programming with Python
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills with a high level of attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in a similar field
  • Experience with sensors, including but not limited to camera, stereo camera, time-of-flight sensor, Radar, and Lidar.
  • Experience with sensor data processing and applications, including but not limited to sensor fusion, computer vision.
  • Commitment to rigorous testing practices
