The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is an independent, international, nonprofit organization devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences through a wide variety of workshops and conferences, fellowships and grants, summer training institutes, scholarly exchanges, research, and publications. Since 1995, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has provided support for Black, Latinx/a/o, and Indigenous graduate students (“Sloan Scholars”) in STEM. These efforts include funding through the University Centers of Exemplary Mentoring and the Sloan Indigenous Graduate Partnership initiatives, which seek to further incentivize systemic change in higher education to ensure the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Sloan Scholars Mentoring Network (SSMN) was created to promote the career advancement of Sloan Scholar graduates through professional development offerings and a robust peer-to-peer network.

The SSMN is seeking a program assistant to assist in program administrative duties. In addition to helping with general programming, the program assistant will focus on integrating graduates of the Sloan Indigenous Graduate Partnership (SIGP) into the SSMN. Among other things, this will include communications and outreach to SIGP Sloan Scholar graduates, designing and implementing events and other programming, and assisting with professional development grants and awards processing.

The program assistant will work collaboratively with the SSMN Program Director and Program Associate on all activities and will strongly contribute to initiatives that serve the SIGP alumni network members. 

Qualifications


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with Indigenous scholars and/or communities
  • High level of proficiency in all MS Office applications as well as database and internet applications
  • Superior organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize daily activities to meet competing deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High level of proficiency with communications technology and social media
  • Ability and willingness to travel to conferences and events

Preferred:

  • Experience with website maintenance
  • Experience in maintaining expense accounts and budgeting
  • Experience in data entry and database queries

Responsibilities

  • Support program staff with the overall administration of the program
  • Provide logistical support for virtual and in-person conferences, workshops, and meetings
  • Serve as a primary contact for program-related questions and correspondence
  • Manage database and electronic files for applicants, grantees, and other contacts
  • Assist with the creation and posting of social media content
  • Manage program calendars
  • Process payments to scholars, vendors, and program partners
  • Write and distribute meeting notes and official meeting minutes
  • Maintain website and listserv
  • Assist with maintaining a scholar database and capturing program outputs and metrics

Terms, Salary, and Benefits

Annual salary is $50,000. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, vision, disability, life, and gym reimbursement; $1,500 annual tuition and/or student loan reimbursement; outstanding pension plan and tax savings programs; generous vacation and sick leave; and more.

Remote work is available through June 2023.
