Model-Based Systems Engineering Summer Intern

Responsibilities


The Strategic Systems Engineering division is seeking a highly-motivated summer student interested in working on a team responsible for the execution of Systems Engineering, Integration and Test tasks that utilize Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies. The day-to-day tasking for this 3-month internship will support systems engineering activities across programs to help the engineering team build models, such as Requirements Models in SysML or Dynamic Simulations in MATLAB, and generate data to drive decisions and deliverables. 
Specific Activities:
  • Work closely with systems engineers to develop and implement new model-based processes and methods
  • Create model to model interfaces or linkages between tools to allow for data to flow from one model to another creating a digital thread which represents a framework that connects and controls the interplay of technical data
  • Understand stakeholder needs and concerns and use modeling tools to create data to address them
  • Regularly present progress and technical artifacts to the team

Qualifications


Students must be US citizens who are enrolled in an accredited engineering curriculum and able to work full-time for the summer break.

  • Is a self-starter and team-player with a desire to learn new things
  • Has excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Has excellent work ethic with the ability to work independently
  • Is familiar with Draper’s core business areas and technologies and understands concepts of systems engineering and engineering design
  • Has strong modeling skills and is comfortable using new software and tools

A preferred candidate…
  • Has familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering and/or object-oriented programming languages
  • Has experience using SysML, Java, C++, MATLAB or Python languages
  • Has experience with Guidance, Navigation and/or Control technologies
