As a Computational Associate, you will:
- Apply existing and novel algorithms to data sets, analyze data quality, critically review and analyze results, communicate results to biologists, computational biologists, software engineers, and clinicians.
- Develop data analysis strategies, write algorithms, and deploy computational tools for the exploration of very large data sets.
- Explore novel data visualization tools, with emphasis on integrating diverse data types or sets
- Implement or improve algorithms in software tools for distribution to the global research community
- Apply machine learning techniques to quality control procedures
- Propose and implement upgrades to existing algorithms, tools and processes
- Use existing software and databases to analyze data
- Prepare data analysis results for presentation in meetings, progress reports and journal publications

Minimum Qualifications:
- At least a current undergraduate senior with an expected graduation date of Dec. 2022 or May 2023
- Majored in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, bioinformatics, biology or similar field
- At least 1 year of undergraduate independent research experience (outside of coursework)
- Strong programming skills and experience with programming languages, preferably Python, Java, C++, or R
- Demonstrated effective communication skills and ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff and external collaborators
- Proven ability to work independently with guidance and mentorship
- Experience with Unix/Linux environments (including shell scripting) is a plus!

Candidates interested in the Broad Biomedical Post-Baccalaureate Scholars Program (BBPS) should complete an ECR application to begin the process. After submitting, you can then complete the BBPS-specific short form, which requires unofficial college transcript(s). The deadline for BBPS applications is February 20th. Please note that the BBPS admissions process is separate from the Early Career Researcher hiring process. Receiving a job offer does not guarantee admission into BBPS, but in order to be admitted to BBPS, you must have a job offer from a research group at the Broad Institute.
What to expect next:
- Please allow 10 minutes to complete the initial application process as it needs to be completed in one sitting. We will ask for your CV/résumé, cover letter, and responses to a short questionnaire.
- If you minimally qualify for the position, you will then receive an email request from SparkHire to complete an on-demand interview as the first step in the interview process. Those responses will be reviewed by our recruiting team and possible next steps will be communicated via email. You will also be asked to complete a coding assessment as well for our computational associate openings.
