We are currently seeking a Scientist/Engineer, Battery Specialist for our Materials & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Menlo Park, CA. In this role, you will work as part of a team to brainstorm and innovate solving real world industrial problems, conducting failure analyses as well as product development and accelerated testing, with a primary emphasis on battery powered devices ranging in size from wearables to electric vehicles to grid scale storage. The role involves extensive collaboration with scientists and engineers across Exponent’s global network of offices. 

You will be responsible for: 
  • Solving complex, real-world problems associated with the application of batteries
  • Planning and performing laboratory tests to analyze batteries and battery-powered devices
  • Analyzing data and reporting results
  • Presenting project findings to engineering, business and legal clients

You will have the following skills and qualifications: 
  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to excel within project teams
  • Specialized knowledge of materials characterization techniques is beneficial
  • Experience with battery materials is beneficial
  • Experience performing data analysis in Python (Pandas) is beneficial
  • Experience with commercial battery testing is beneficial
