We are currently seeking an Materials Engineer/Scientist for our Materials & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Natick, MA. In this role you will work as an engineering consultant on materials, metallurgical, and electrochemical systems with a team conducting product development as well as litigation support.
You will be responsible for:
- Supporting a multidisciplinary team that collaborates to solve complex, real-world problems associated with the application of batteries, consumer electronics, and other materials science related topics across multiple business sectors
- Gathering information from and conveying technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, business, law, and industry, as well as communicating testing rationale in the context of product development, product defect claims, and intellectual property disputes
- Analyzing root cause of a wide variety of failures related to issues arising in development, manufacturing or use of products in a variety of industries including consumer products, medical device, pharmaceuticals, and other market
- Conducting materials characterizations, metallurgical analysis, and testing
You will have the following skills and qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy/Metallurgical Engineering or Nuclear Science and Engineering
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute
- Specialized knowledge of materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, FIB, TEM, EDS, XPS, Auger, SIMS, FTIR, acoustic microscopy, X-ray, or interferometry) is required
- Experience with battery materials and characterization is beneficial
- Specialized metallurgical engineering knowledge and experience in metallographic and fractographic interpretation, corrosion, fracture mechanics, heat treatment and microstructural development is beneficial
- Experience with manufacturing processes and control is desired
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
