Electrical Engineer - Intern

Location/Division Specific Information:
GCMS Product line, Austin, TX, Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division

How will you make an impact?
As an Electrical Engineer intern within the GCMS Research and Development (R&D) group at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will be directly involved in designing and evaluation of the electronics. These electronics are used in the gas chromatography mass spectrometry instruments. You will collaborate with a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team, which includes engineers (electrical, mechanical, software, quality, and manufacturing), scientists and project managers. The role will also expose you to Thermo Fisher’s product development process and allow you to apply your creative thinking to solving problems.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the R&D team with bring-up of newly built PCB assemblies in the lab.
  • Troubleshoot the circuitry as needed.
  • Performs verification and validation to satisfy the requirements set forth in Engineering Change Orders (ECO).
  • Assist engineers in selection and qualification of new or alternate electronic components.
How will you get here?
Education
  • Enrolled in the field of Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
Experience
  • Sophomore or higher level.
  • Experience with an EDA tool such as Altium or Mentor Graphics Pads.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Proficient with reading and understanding electrical schematics.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated both as an individual contributor and within a team environment.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Good attention to detail and organized methodical approach to solving problems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
