The Nuclear Process Infrastructure Division (NPI) at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking intelligent, capable, and inquisitive candidates with a broad scientific background and a mastery of data science and related skills. We are currently offering competitively paid graduate research appointments at the post-masters level for eligible candidates. Successful candidates will work in an independent fashion, employing a variety of techniques to analyze operational data related to environmental stewardship. Successful candidates will build data tools, identify opportunities for improvement, produce succinct and convincing communications, and help us ensure that our processes are maximally efficient while remaining safe and compliant with all applicable regulations.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Mathematical Proficiency: Must be mathematically proficient at the advanced undergraduate level including coursework in statistics, vector calculus and linear algebra or their respective equivalents.
Computer Science Education/Experience: Must have intermediate-level programming skills including coursework demonstrating knowledge of algorithms, data structures and the ability to write complex code in a general programming language such as C, Java, Python, or similar. Must have experience with statistical or rapid-prototyping computing environments for the exploration of data such as R, Stata, MATLAB, Python/Pandas/Matplotlib.
Data Science: Must have experience applying concepts, modeling, and visualization to open ended problems in an academic or professional setting.
