Exponent’s Vehicle Engineering Practice provides a wide range of vehicle evaluation and testing services. We have worked with automobiles, buses, trucks, vans, bicycles, trailers, motorcycles, trains, forklifts, tractors, cranes, mining and construction equipment, ATVs, golf carts, and more. We assist clients in addressing multi-faceted issues related to accident causation, failure analysis, vehicle design, and electrical subsystems and provide complex component and full-scale product testing.  A considerable asset of the Vehicle Engineering Practice is the Test and Engineering Center (TEC) in Phoenix, Arizona that is a highly capable test facility that conducts a wide range of tests in support of these evaluations. Some of the tests conducted at the Phoenix facility include full-scale vehicle testing, mechanical and electronic component testing, and battery testing.

We are currently seeking a Video and Instrumentation Technician 2 for our Test & Engineering Center (TEC) in Phoenix, AZ.  In this role you will work as part of a technician team with a wide range of responsibilities working with our consultants in preparing for and conducting various system, subsystem, and component-level tests.

 Your responsibilities will include:
  • Setting up camera equipment in a hands-on environment for documentation of various test programs, including but not limited to automotive crash testing, sled testing, vehicle handling tests, and other test programs
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting camera and other photographic lab equipment and editing suite software
  • Scheduling personnel and equipment resources required for high-speed, real-time, and other equipment used for video documentation
  • Building cable assemblies that interface with various pieces of equipment
  • Specifying and evaluating new photographic test equipment required for the lab
  • Supporting consultant engineers by developing and creating custom camera setups required for documenting unique test setups
  • Serving individually or as a team technician in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities

You will have the following skills and qualifications:
  • Associates degree in videography, electronics, or other related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience in video documentation of dynamic testing
  • Experience using real-time and high-speed video systems and associated high-intensity lighting
  • Experience in Photron PV, Phantom, or other high-speed camera control software
  • Experience with video editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier, Wondershare and Photoshop
  • Ability to apply experience in video documentation to achieve unique project goals through creativity and critical problem-solving
  • Ability to operate common hand tools and basic electronic troubleshooting tools such as a digital volt meter
  • Excellent verbal communications skills and a demonstrated dedication to quality and accuracy
  • Must be versatile, team-oriented, and willing to work overtime to meet project deadlines

The following skills are helpful but not required:
  • Soldering skills for basic cabling and other electronic equipment maintenance
  • Welding brackets and other mechanical skills for test setup
  • Experience in data acquisition systems
  • Experience with video tracking software packages
  • Knowledge and interest in automotive systems
  • Drone piloting experience and license
