Health Program Specialist - Idaho Health Equity Initiatives

We are seeking a full-time limited service (benefit eligible) Health Program Specialist with exceptional coordination and communication skills to support health equity initiatives in Idaho. The health program specialist will develop, support, and coordinate multiple efforts to advance health equity in the Bureau of Equity and Strategic Partnerships, Division of Public Health. Partial telework schedule may be an option!

Our generous benefits package increases the total compensation of a full-time (benefits eligible) Health Program Specialist making $32.00/hour to an estimated $44.89/hour.

This is a limited service position. Length of limited service appointments are determined by the availability of funds such as grants, alternative funding sources and/or timeframes such as pilot projects, alternative funding sources or program termination.

Example of Duties
  • Plan and implement statewide initiatives to advance health equity in rural Idaho communities.
  • Serve as the DHW lead for the rural components of the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) National Initiative to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities Among Populations at High-Risk and Underserved, Including Racial and Ethnic Minority Populations and Rural Communities, in collaboration with the health program manager and bureau chief.
  • Develop, plan, implement, and measure progress on grant deliverables.
  • Engage stakeholders to advance initiatives, including facilitating meetings and preparing materials.
  • Develop contract and subgrant solicitations to support the rural components of the grant, under guidance of the Bureau of Rural Health & Primary Care health program manager and bureau chief.
  • Coordinate, conduct, and monitor initiatives implemented through successful contract and subgrant proposals.
  • Identify rural health system barriers and challenges related to health equity and propose solutions to address issues.
  • Collect and compile data, reports, and information for federal reports.
  • Provide technical assistance and information regarding the CDC Health equity grant initiatives.

  • Some knowledge of: public health practices; survey methodology and statistical procedures used to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Experience managing projects.

  1. Bachelor's degree or higher in public health, healthcare, health science, or related field.
  2. Experience developing and implementing large regional or statewide health initiatives. Gained by at least one year of related professional experience. 
  3. Experience developing grant proposals and reports. Gained by at least one year of related professional experience.
  4. Some knowledge of program needs assessment and program development, implementation, and evaluation; rural health issues and healthcare system issues. Gained by at least one year of related professional experience.
