Master's degree in counseling, psychology or related mental health field and two years mental health counseling and/or experience working with victims of trauma; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience. A Post-Master's Education Specialist (Ed.S.) Degree is equivalent to the required education and one year of related work experience in suicide and crisis intervention. Licensure in mental health, clinical social work, marriage and family counseling or any related mental health field is required within six months of employment. Must successfully pass a Level 2 Background Check as specified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Applicants within six months of meeting the minimum education/experience requirement may be considered for trainee status. A Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy #6-7; Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed prior to employment. If, in the past 24-month period, the applicants Motor Vehicle Record has more than three (3) moving traffic infractions or three (3) or more at fault motor vehicle accidents (or combination of both and /or a conviction/pending charge for driving under the influence) or is in violation of any standard mandated by Federal or State Law or Regulation, the minimum qualifications are not met for the position.
 Position Summary: This is responsible counseling work assisting rape, sexual violence/assault and violent crime victims for the Department of Community Support Services, Victim Services & Rape Crisis Center.

This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work.

An employee assigned to this classification provides trauma-informed, strength-based therapy to adult crime victims with a focus on survivors of sexual violence. 
Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports and observation of the results obtained.
 Examples of Duties: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Exudes a positive customer service focus.
Advocates building organizational culture through aligning decisions with core values including: integrity, honesty, respect, diversity, innovation, accountability and communication.
Fosters an inclusive and collegial community that builds on the diversity and strengths of its volunteers and staff.
Provides individual and group therapy to sexual violence survivors and other crime victims through the use of trauma-informed and strength-based modalities. 
Assists with coordination of necessary emergency services such as, food, clothing, shelter, transportation and medical needs as needed.
Informs victims of F.S.960, Victim Assistance including the right to be heard, provisions for forensic exams, victim compensation, advocacy services, etc. 
Assists sexual violence survivors and other crime victims with preparing victim impact statements.
Provides follow-up assistance, like information and referral to clients.
Provides information about the reporting process and the availability of accompaniment by an advocate with the Center during this process.
Serves in the 24-hour on-call rotation when needed, providing in-person crisis intervention to sexual violence survivors and other crime victims at crime scenes, hospitals, or other locations.
Meets with staff to discuss cases, practices and policies of the Center.
Participates in consultation with colleagues and supervisors to support ongoing learning and self-care. 
Provides educational presentations to increase awareness of sexual violence and its impact on the individual and the community. 
Prepares statistical reports by compiling and documenting types of crimes and other information on a monthly data sheet and as requested by the Director and other agencies.
Prepares clinical notes of therapy sessions by documenting session notes to ensure quality control for grants and the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling and as a record and reminder of counseling needs and progress.
Attends training to remain current in counseling sexual violence and trauma survivors, to maintain licensure to provide therapy, and enhance understanding of cross-cultural communication, diversity and inclusion.  
Drives a County and/or personal vehicle periodically to respond to crisis calls, and uses a County vehicle to transport clients periodically during call-outs.

Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge and experience counseling trauma survivors.

Considerable knowledge of the laws, rules, and ethics of working as a licensed therapist in Florida.

Knowledge of community assistance programs and agencies for rape, sexual violence/assault and crime victims.

Knowledge of the criminal justice system especially as it relates to crime victims.

Ability to effectively determine routes for referral and assistance.

Ability to react to the needs of clients calmly and quickly in emergencies.

Ability to facilitate support groups.

Ability to work with and counsel suicidal/distraught clients.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients and community organizations.

Ability to make public presentations before community organizations about the programand the impact victimization has on the individual and the community. .

Ability to respond effectively to a variety of clients and situations with little advanced warning.
