REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Intern - Urban Planning Division
 
General Description
The intern assists the Planning Section with maintaining and implementing the Broward County Comprehensive Plan. Work may include conducting research and analysis on a variety of topics such as, transportation, housing, land use, and demographics; and creating maps to support such research and analysis. The intern assists administrative staff to provide customer service over the phone, as well as making copies, scanning documents, and other clerical duties as assigned.  

Close administrative direction and supervision is received from a superior; emphasis is placed on training interns for continuing employment within the county or local government. Work is reviewed through observation of performance, frequent conferences and reports.

Temporary appointment for up to six months.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Currently enrolled in, or graduated from, a degree-seeking program from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to area of assignment.

OR

Able to meet the qualifications of a County Commission and Human Resources approved internship or apprenticeship program
Special Certifications and Licenses
None.

Preferences
-Highly organized, energetic with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 
-Ability to plan and organize work independently. 
-Technology savvy is a MUST. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and Adobe Pro. 
-Experience with database management.  
-Quick learner - Ability to learn new systems and products/services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Applies research techniques and analytical methods to the study of administrative systems, organizational structures, policies and procedures related to the area of assignment.

Conducts special studies in conjunction with a project; analyzes data and makes recommendations based upon research.

Responsible for project assignments, research and analysis.

Provides information and assistance to the general public and other governmental agencies.

Prepares project reports and related data.

Provides administrative support to agency.

Performs related work as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
