Work Study: Communications Associate
This position is open to work-study students only. Students will be asked to provide a copy of their work study award letter before being offered the position. Please note this position is currently scheduled for up to 10 hours a week and will extend through the end of the spring semester.
Hourly rate: $18/hour, up to 10 hours a week

The RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service is seeking a part-time Communications Associate to support Center marketing, communication, and events. This position will report to the Senior Outreach Program Coordinator.
Working Environment/Schedule
Hybrid – flexible schedule and work location (shared cubicle space at the LBJ School provided)
Job Responsibilities
Communications and Marketing
- Develop weekly and monthly newsletters from the Center (MailChimp)
- Update the RGK Center website with content from the Outreach Coordinator
- May occasionally collaborate with the Outreach Coordinator to write short articles for the RGK Center website
Social Media Management
- Draft and schedule content for RGK Center’s LinkedIn and Instagram accounts (Hootsuite)
- Monitor the Center’s social media channels and engage with followers professionally while representing the University
- Track and report social media engagement and follower growth metrics
- Collaborate with Outreach Coordinator to develop social media goals/strategy and communications calendar
Event Support
- Support the RGK Center staff in event planning and day-of support for events, as needed. Events may be virtual, hybrid, or in-person and may be hosted on or off-campus.
Required Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Continuous work as a team member and ability to work independently with some supervision
- Strong grasp of major social media platforms, especially Instagram and LinkedIn
Preferred Qualifications
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree in communications/journalism or related field
- Experience with Hootsuite and/or MailChimp
- Experience developing social media content for a brand or organization and demonstrated ability to follow brand guidelines
- Familiarity with web content production and management
- Experience working/volunteering with nonprofits or an interest in the nonprofit sector
