OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The individual will join a dynamic group of researchers in the lab of Dr. Bill Sellers in various efforts to develop technologies that may lead to novel therapeutic insights in cancer. The individual will assist a multidisciplinary team of scientists in performing a variety of assays aimed at studying small molecule–protein interactions and will be largely independent on a daily basis after training. The successful candidate is also expected to make intellectual contributions and assist in project planning and experimental design. The candidate might also assist in bioinformatics and database tools to streamline this project. The individual will interact and collaborate closely with other scientists and will be involved in a series of research activities, including collaborative efforts between research groups, and the verbal and written communication of science.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with recombinant protein expression, purification, quality and quantity assessment, and in vitro assays analyzing small molecule – protein interactions.
- Learn and help develop pipelines of mammalian tissue culture and phenotypic readouts using genetic and small molecule perturbations.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment to complete investigations.
- Document, compile, and analyze experimental data. Report data to team in oral and written reports.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to experimental planning.
- Maintain and improve technical knowledge base.
- Other related tasks as required.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor or master’s degree in the life sciences 0-1 years of experience.
- Prior cell biology, molecular biology, and chemistry coursework.
Skills and abilities
- Familiarity with general molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques is strongly desired.
- Experience with mammalian cells and tissue culture is a plus.
- Experience with protein purification (affinity, ion-exchange and size exclusion chromatography) is a plus.
- Exceptional organizational and critical thinking skills, lab notebook practices and attention to detail are critically essential.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff are needed.
- Ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment, large complex experiments, and large data sets, all of which demand great attention to detail.
