USDA-ARS Fellowship on Midwest Climate Hub Ag-Climate Crop Management Changes

ARS Office/Lab and Location: A research opportunity is available within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), with the Midwest Climate Hub housed in the National Laboratory for the Agriculture and the Environment located in Ames, IA.
The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's chief scientific in-house research agency with a mission to find solutions to agricultural problems that affect Americans every day from field to table. Research Project: The role of the Midwest Climate Hub is to help develop and deliver information and practices to help agriculture adapt to a varying and changing climate and to help encourage Climate Smart practices that mitigate GHGs and climate change. The hub works with a wide variety of federal, state and land grant partners to share information about climate and agricultural issues over a wide range of time scales.
The candidate will have the opportunity to participate within a rapidly growing climate hub learning from and collaborating with partners to help research and discover more information about climate change issues changing management practices across a variety of cropping systems in the Midwest. Project activities will include supporting research on understanding climate change impacts on cropping shifts in the Corn Belt area and reviewing/developing crop management changes and recommendations in this region.
Learning Objectives: The candidate will have the opportunity to learn about Midwest agricultural systems and management options and gain experience in data analysis, reviewing research and creating publications and outreach materials for a variety of audiences. Information created during the appointment will be incorporated in hub materials and shared with partners in the region. Under the guidance of a mentor, the candidate will partner with the USDA Climate Hubs and USDA Long Term Agro-ecological Research network and many other climate service partners in the region.

Anticipated Appointment Start Date: July 18, 2022. Start date is flexible and will depend on a variety of factors.
Appointment Length: The appointment will initially be for 80 weeks, but may be renewed upon recommendation of ARS and is contingent on the availability of funds.
Level of Participation: The appointment is part-time (20 hours a week).
Participant Stipend: The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.

ORISE Information: This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and ARS. Participants do not become employees of USDA, ARS, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE.

Qualifications
