2022-2023: Information Technology - Network Engineering Intern
Come join our IT Engineering Department where we are managing the talent to drive Chevron's Digital Transformation. We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Network Engineer intern position focused on networking environments across our Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream business segments.
What you will do:
Join the team as a Network Engineer Intern to design and develop the global Chevron Network. The Engineer Intern must be able to ensure continuous availability of efficient and reliable network services to both internal and external Chevron customers.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop network hardware and software standards for network infrastructure devices.
- Develop and implement solutions and processes to maintain the reliability, effectiveness, and efficiency of network infrastructure components across the enterprise and associated process control environments.
- Collaborate with product owners, development team, architects, business units and other stakeholders to deliver solutions via SAFe methodology. Identify continuous improvement opportunities, create new or improved processes utilizing automation to support step changes in operational efficiencies.
- Lead and provide subject matter expertise, and collaborates extensively with other IT SMEs in design, deployment, and implementation of network infrastructure solutions by utilizing automation to deliver network infrastructure technologies and improving frameworks for controls and policies.
- Collaborates with global business units to design and deploy network infrastructure solutions suited to their unique environments.
- Analyzes network infrastructure needs and designs solutions that meet business requirements for protection, standardization, efficiency, scalability, supportability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Transitions developed solutions to operations, including delivery of educational and training programs, and continues to provide Level 3 support.
- Collaborates with others to communicate change impacts across the enterprise.
- Follows standard change management processes and practices when introducing technical changes to the environment.
- Develops and shares best practices with other teams.
- Strong interest in network infrastructure understanding, WAN acceleration, Data Center Design
- Lead coverage, capacity, and performance planning to optimize existing communication solutions.
- Promote best practices in the technical areas above to maximize enterprise value. Provide global guidance on standards and guardrails.
- Participate in the development, testing, and validation of Network plan proposals
- Development skills for traditional IT professionals increasing technical growth.
- Assist, when needed, in troubleshooting complex networks during escalated business incidents.
Required Qualifications:
- Two years toward Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, or equivalent network infrastructure engineering experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency to delivery results with intermediate networking concepts and infrastructure components
- Secure network design, Cisco routers, switches, access point and wireless LAN controllers, Juniper routers, Cisco SD technologies.
- VPN and third-party connectivity configurations.
- Network data gathering tools, traffic analysis, network concepts from layer 2 through 7 including NAT and application identification
- Analysis of logs on the firewalls and Splunk
- Routing and switching planning, design, and implementation
- Ability to align and grow with teams, as well as build relationships with a variety of disciplines, cultures, and environments. Fosters cooperation and collaboration among individuals on the team and on assigned projects.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships at all levels with operations, design, projects, vendors, peers, etc.
- Aptitude for managing complex projects to completion.
- Basic knowledge of network routing and switching.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, prioritize, schedule, and manage work activities to meet customer needs and expectations.
- Problem Solving, and ability to accomplish desired results independently with minimal direction in alignment with team goals and network infrastructure standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Agile delivery methodologies (e.g., SAFe).
- Experience with Juniper MPLS and carrier class routers.
- CCNA Level Experience
Geographical Details:
- Working Location: The preferred location for this role is in Houston, Texas. Considerations may be given to San Ramon, California. No Relocation will be offered.
- Travel Requirements: Limited
