Postdoctoral Fellow - Oncology Bioinformatics - Piskol Lab

The Piskol lab in Genentech’s Research and Early Development organization is looking for an exceptional Postdoctoral Fellow who will pair state-of-the-art single cell assays with computational methods to study the intra-tumoral heterogeneity of metastatic colorectal cancer and the collaborative role of oncogenic signaling pathways in cancer maintenance, progression and response to treatment.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic group and will develop an independent research project tackling challenging problems in cancer biology, while leveraging the available resources in a highly collaborative environment across the organization.
 
Requirements

  • You have a Ph.D in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or related field
  • You have a demonstrated record of innovative scientific accomplishments as evidenced by at least one first-author or co-first author key paper in a top journal
  • You have demonstrated ability to apply modern computational methodologies for biologically meaningful interpretation of high-throughput genomics/transcriptomics data (e.g. scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, TraCe-seq, spatial transcriptomics, etc.)
  • You enjoy working in a collaborative environment across departments
  • You have excellent communication and organizational skills
  • You are familiar with the Linux working environment and high-performance computing
  • You are proficient in R, Python or other high-level programming languages and have experience in standard bioinformatics toolkits/programs

Bio
Robert Piskol is a Principal Scientist in gRED’s Oncology Bioinformatics department where he leads a group of scientists that drive the computational efforts in Molecular-, Discovery- and Translational Oncology. Robert’s main interest lies in studying cancer at different levels of resolution (inter-patient, intra-patient, intra-tumor) and the effects of our targeted therapies on response with a focus on colorectal and liver indications.
Robert holds a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the Ludwig-Maximilian University, Munich and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford.
