Entry Level Field Electrical Engineer

Job Purpose: 
The Electrical Test Technician (Substation Technician) is a Field Technician who will Inspects, test, and maintains substation electrical equipment, such as circuit breakers and transformers: Inspects and tests equipment to detect malfunctioning and determine resistance and load, using various test equipment.

Entry to Mid Level Equipment Tech
Salary Range: $26 - $38 per hour 
Travel: 25-60%

Responsibilities:
Field Service Technicians inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (to 500kV) electrical systems, and moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.

   • High / Medium / Low voltage testing of electrical power equipment.
   • Consult manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams and engineering personnel in order to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems and determine optimum equipment functioning.
   • Prepare and maintain reports detailing all tests, repairs, and maintenance performed.
   • Troubleshoot, repair, replace and clean equipment and components in a substation.

Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree or Bachelors degree in Electrical/Electronic technology, or Military experience.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with desire to learn
  • NETA certified a plus, but not required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Electrical/Electronic technology, or Military experience preferred but not required.
  • 2+ years of hands on experience High, Medium and Low voltage testing of electrical power equipment.
 
Knowledge of the following equipment:  
  • Circuit Breakers, LV/MV/HV
  • Transformers
  • Switchgear
  • Motors/Motor Controls
  • PT's
  • CCVT's
Experience with the following test equipment:
  • Power Factor Testing
  • Ductor
  • Megger/Insulation Resistance Testing
  • CT ration & saturation
  • Hi-Pot Cable Testing
Additional Requirements:

   • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
   • Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
   • Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
   • Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs.
   • Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
