Sr. Research Associate II, Analytical Operations

This role is in the Analytical Core Team (ACT) within Analytical Operations (AO), based at our headquarters in Foster City, CA. The group is responsible for qualification and inventory management of Gilead’s small molecule reference standards. The successful candidate will possess a detailed understanding of analytical instrumentation, characterization, strong critical thinking skills, and excellent communication skills.
Essential Responsibilities & Skills:
  • Executes or supervises analytical testing including appearance, water content, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, TGA/DSC, infrared and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Desired experience includes knowledge of NMR and MS techniques.
  • Troubleshoots instrumentation and test methods. Provides technical support and mentors junior colleagues.
  • Reviews testing data and results to ensure compliance to appropriate test methods, specifications, and protocols. Recognizes anomalous and inconsistent results.
  • Adheres to and incorporates GMP, GDP, and GLP into daily tasks. Maintains laboratory safety and compliance at all times.
  • Actively participates in resolving lab events, investigations, or other procedural related issues. Understands processes for identification, investigation, and closure of laboratory events.
  • Able to work well independently and in a team setting on assigned tasks.
  • Participates in group meetings, presents results of work, interprets data, and draws conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work.
  • Works in collaboration to design experiments and advance state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Excellent communication, organization, time management, and interpersonal skills are required.
Education & Experience:
  • BS degree with 4+ years of relevant biotech/pharmaceutical professional experience, OR MS degree with 2+ relevant biotech/pharmaceutical professional experience. Degrees should be in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with EMPOWER, Microsoft Office, Jira, and LIMS preferred.
  • Hands-on experience and problem-solving skills with chromatographic techniques (HPLC/UPLC, GC)
