The Congressional Research Service (CRS) Government and Finance Division is seeking an Analyst on Congress and the Legislative Process to work on congressional rules, practices, and precedents, particularly those related to the consideration of budget and appropriations legislation on the floor of the House and Senate, as well as organization and procedure of congressional committees and the role of congressional leadership. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of congressional budget and appropriations procedures.
The candidate should have experience in locating and interpreting factual information; conducting research; preparing objective, descriptive, background, and analytical reports; and participating in team research projects and seminars. The analyst is also expected to develop over time the skills necessary to provide legislative analysis and consultation on budget and appropriations procedures to congressional committees, Members, and staff at increasingly sophisticated levels. Strong writing, research, and presentation skills are essential. Applicants earning an advanced degree in public policy, public administration, political science or other related social sciences are especially encouraged to apply. The analyst position carries promotion potential to the GS-15 level.
