Electrical Project Execution Engineer (Hybrid remote work schedule)

General Description: 

Electrical Project Engineer within Execution Engineering team supports Electrical Engineering Project Manager(s) in managing engineering service agreements, engineering documentation, change orders, invoices, schedules, project design, and other work as necessary to support execution of wind, solar, and energy storage facilities. Manage deliverables for project(s) and upload to applicable systems as necessary to support design, OSE RFPS, ESA RFPs, BoP RFPs, EPC RFPs, construction, and turn over to Operations. Assist Electrical Engineering Project Manager(s) to oversee, guide, and manage the work of third-party consultants. Promote environmental stewardship and a health and safety-focused culture within the Engineering group. Additional responsibilities include providing support to operating facilities as needed. This position will be on a hybrid remote work schedule, working three days in office and two days from home.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Maintain active involvement in all phases of work related to electrical design including wind turbine micro-siting, solar project siting, DC and AC collection system, project substation, generator lead line, interconnect switchyard, civil design interface related to junction box placement along access road route, civil design interface related to crossing exhibit and agreement, interconnection studies, and generator interconnection agreement
  • Assist Electrical Engineering Project Manager(s) to manage electrical engineering scopes and deliverables under EPC agreements
  • Assist Electrical Engineering Project Manager(s) to manage electrical engineering agreements including collection system, project substation, generator lead line, P&C / SCADA/ AFHA, special studies, and main power transformer consultants
  • Assist Electrical Engineering Project Manager(s) to ensure timely and accurate production of quality electrical engineering plans, studies, and specifications while maintaining compliance with department, project, company, and industry requirements and standards
  • Interpret, review and occasionally prepare plans, calculations, specifications, drawings, and documents related to engineering and construction pertaining to electrical infrastructure of the project
  • Validate Bill of Quantities and Bill of Materials for a project deliverable
  • Conduct and Support value-engineering studies of alternative design approaches and maintain documentation
  • Lead or participate in project meetings and conference calls related to project engineering and construction
  • Attend monthly project construction meetings to maintain current knowledge of project status and to provide support to achieve on-time project completion
  • Monitor responses to Requests for Information and Submittals on projects under engineering and construction to ensure timely response
  • Ensure that final construction documentation (i.e., “As-Builts”) accurately reflects the installed facility and is complete for all project work
  • Manage updates to engineering scope of works, exhibits, design guides, specification, schedule, budget, lessons learned, and other templates
  • Serve as an interface between the Engineering group and internal clients including Transmission Interconnection, Development, Construction, Operations, Environmental, Estimating, Energy Assessment, Health & Safety, Procurement, Legal, and Central Technical Direction, to facilitate interdepartmental relations
  • Upload design and other documents to applicable system to support engineering design, OSE RFPs, BoP / EPC RFPs, Construction, and turn over to Operations
  • Support tracking of continuous effort, preliminary engineering, engineering design schedule, invoices, engineering services RFP, and BoP/EPC RFP
  • Manage Independent Engineering deliverables to support tax equity funding
  • Assist with investigations of electrical related issues (physical as well as protection and SCADA related matter) at operational projects including root cause analysis as needed
  • Collaborate with Operations and Asset Management to ensure that designs capture operational experience and needs
  • Support engineering team in tracking previous agreements and as-built files
  • Prepare various reports for management on regular interval
  • Create and maintain databases as necessary to streamline internal processes
  • Maintain and foster contacts with consulting engineers
  • Occasionally participate in meetings with utility and Independent System Operator and guide a discussion on project behalf
  • Provides support on meeting the requirements of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and help with compliance procedures and reports as required by regional auditors
  • Occasionally assist Development Engineering to ensure that the electrical portion of the estimated Balance of Plant cost (CAPEX) is optimized
  • Occasionally provides the preliminary internal engineering needed to support the Development Engineering

Travel: Willingness and ability to travel as needed (up to 50% travel anticipated, with prior approval)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) is required
  • 3 – 5 years of design and engineering experience is required
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is preferred, in any state
  • Renewable Energy experience is preferred
  • Power utility experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of transmission systems, medium and high voltage substation electrical equipment, underground distribution systems, dynamics and stability modeling of Power Pools, the Interconnection Request process, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, lightning protection, grounding grids, relay protection schemes, and applicable industry standards and codes, including Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
  • Understanding of all applicable aspects of the electrical engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of Power System software is preferred
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 3D is preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project and/or Primavera preferred
  • Familiarity with ProjectWise document controls systems/processes a plus
  • Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing products preferred.
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise preferred

  • Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to frequently perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching while on project sites; ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment
  • Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
  • Walking: Ability to walk several miles per day, including across unpaved and rough surfaces when on project sites
