Laboratory Technician I

Responsibilities:
  • Becomes proficient in using aseptic technique.
  • Becomes familiar with organizing and scheduling routine microbial testing.
  • Performs, calculates, and records results of microbiological testing such as bioburden, sterility, and bacteriostasis/fungi stasis test procedures on products.
  • Performs environmental testing such as air quality, water quality, and component bioburden tests.
  • Performs functional testing of specified products with predetermined organisms.
  • Identifies and recognizes "out of spec " conditions and alerts Microbiologist.
  • Prepares and tests all media used for testing and documents media lot information.
  • Prepares and tests biological indicators used for steam sterilization.
  • Cleans, autoclaves, and stores glassware and testing supplies.
  • Reassembles and autoclaves additive and production filling equipment.
  • Other responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Follows all local, state, federal and Client safety regulations, policies/procedures.
  • Follows all local Client quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.
  • Observes all safety, environmental and quality system standards.
  • Performs routine calibration on specified lab equipment when required such as pH meter, balance, and RCS air sampler.
  • Performs preliminary organism identification techniques.
  • Trends data as vital.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of testing areas and general laboratory.
  • Assists microbiologist with special projects when vital.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Associates degree is strongly preferred.
  • Prefer background in the math or life sciences.
  • Prefer experience with aseptic technique.
  • Prefer laboratory experience.
