Staff Reservoir Engineer

Job Summary

  • Applies knowledge of engineering and geological principles to plan, design, construct and maintain gas storage capacity and deliverability. Works under limited supervision and proffers independent recommendations utilizing advanced techniques and the modification and extension of current theories and practices to resolve unique, complex, technical issues. Applies computer modeling techniques to determine gas reserves, contents and flow rates, and preserve stored gas inventory. The knowledge and expertise required for this level usually results from progressive geological or reservoir engineering-related experience. Span of control: 0; this is an individual contributor job

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide technical assistance to reservoir engineering staff.
  • Verify and recommend methods to maintain storage reservoir and well deliverability performance to meet peak day requirements.
  • Verify and recommend methods to maintain storage reservoir gas inventory levels and well integrity.
  • Evaluate well maintenance and enhancement results via state-of- the-art techniques.
  • Interpret corrosion and related well logs; determine appropriate well maintenance to prevent well leaks.
  • Perform storage field feasibility analyses, design and cost estimating for current field expansions and future multi-million dollar projects.
  • Perform integrated well and gathering pipeline design optimization studies.
  • Perform advanced reserve and production forecasts for use in multi-million dollar projects.
  • Conduct advanced reservoir and well performance simulation.
  • Assist in financial analyses of technical alternatives including cost-of-service and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Provide on-site technical consultation during well stimulation, workover, well drilling, or well plugging.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate databases.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in petroleum or geological engineering, or geology, and the knowledge / capabilities typically acquired through 3+ years of job-relevant experience, inclusive of: gas reservoir deliverability mechanisms; transient flow test analyses and stimulation techniques;, production drive mechanisms; gas inventory analysis, and; hydrocarbons-in-place determination techniques.

Other Qualifications

Preferred
  • 4+ years of experience and oil or gas company gas/petroleum engineering experience; understanding of vendor selection process for services and materials, material procurement, maintenance and tracking of equipment, and equipment disposal.
  • Experience in technical report writing and regulatory testimony preparation.
  • Some experience with field and office projects (with both employees and contractors) for drilling, testing, maintenance and stimulation of wells.
  • Understanding of budget development.
  • Professional registration
 
Other Requirements
  • Working knowledge of Excel (or similar spreadsheet software), reservoir engineering/geological software and database management; nodal analysis methods to provide gas rate and pressure forecasts.
  • May require initial and/or periodic drug or fitness for duty testing.
  • Ability to travel & report for work at different locations (typically within the Corporation's service area); incumbents are responsible for their own transportation.
  • Proficient verbal, written and presentation skills; communicates clearly, with credibility and confidence.
  • Analytical & problem solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
