Research Technician I - Trotman Lab

The Trotman Lab at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is accepting applications for a full-time Research Technician I position. The team has developed a mouse model for metastatic prostate cancer, which is used to explore metastasis biology and new prostate cancer therapies (see PMIDs: 24444712, 29617673 and 31092557). The work involves model generation, trial design and execution, and development of new animal imaging techniques. All of these are carried out in close collaboration with the other members of the team.

Routine responsibilities range from survival surgeries and tissue dissection, to independent execution and evaluation of pre-clinical trials. Beyond this, the successful candidate will be developing new non-invasive high-resolution 3D-imaging methods in collaboration with the small animal imaging group. The successful candidate will also work with neurobiology teams on the latest generation microscopy techniques for post-mortem imaging of whole organs at single cell resolution as the Trotman lab is generating 3D panoramas of tumors and metastases (PMID 34788609). Furthermore, isolation of single cancer cells for culture and Next-Gen sequencing is routinely done in collaboration with the investigators of the team. Projects are developed and discussed with the team leader and the members on a weekly basis.

Position Requirements• Education: Applicant should have a BS or MS degree in a scientific discipline

• Experience/Skills: 2+ years of experience with animal husbandry, animal handling including injections and survival surgeries are strongly considered.

• The successful candidate must be independent, highly organized, self-motivated, and passionate to be working as part of a larger research team.

• General molecular biology procedures such as DNA/RNA isolation, genotyping, and qPCR may also be a part of this position.

The nature of pre-clinical trials may require occasional duties on weekends and holidays, and the candidate will need to be able to travel freely between CSHL and the Woodbury campus, a 15 minute drive.
