Safety Administrator

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct studies and investigations to ensure compliance with Government safety and health laws, standards, regulations, and internal requirements
  • Lead the emergency preparedness and response effort at SDL
  • Act as the subject matter expert for fall protection, electrical safety, machine shop safety, machine guarding, forklifts/scissor lifts/aerial lifts, cranes, lockout/tagout, work with energetic materials and other safety-centric areas
  • Administer the PPE program for the purchase of safety glasses, shoes, hearing protection, etc.
  • Help with the promotion of safety-conscious work performance, conducting safety training, and conducting accident investigations
  • Respond timely to safety and health issues/alarms during working hours and after hours
  • Maintain and develop knowledge of governmental regulations and other standards that may impact organization operations
  • Lead the effort to address environmental issues and regulations at SDL
  • Travel to SDL locations outside of Utah on an infrequent basis to provide support
  • Lead the effort to provide safety support for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) projects

Required Qualifications:
  • BS in industrial hygiene, safety engineering, occupational health and safety, or related field
  • 5 or more years of related experience
  • Technical competence in the safety and health field; including knowledge of safety and health regulations and a familiarity with developing compliance plans
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision to develop and implement safety and health programs to meet organizational needs
  • Ability to build and preserve positive relationships within and outside of the organization
  • Computer skills, including a detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively develop presentations and speak effectively in various forums
  • Creative and strong problem-solving abilities that promote win-win outcomes
  • Ability to organize and pay attention to detail
  • Able to handle multiple tasks concurrently
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current HAZWOPER training
  • Expertise in computer/technology to enhance Safety office effectiveness
  • Certification as a Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, or similar certification
  • Technical expertise in environmental issues
