RES is currently accepting applications for the position of Water Resources Engineer to support our ecological restoration work in the Midwest and Great Lakes region. As a Water Resource Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on projects you design through the entire project’s life cycle. Our Engineers are involved from initial concept through construction and long-term monitoring allowing our team to conduct adaptive management and apply innovative techniques to future restoration projects. Our typical project approach to water resources problems is to design systems that integrate holistic nature-based solutions with traditional engineering skills.
 

Responsibilities

The desired candidate’s responsibilities would include but are not limited to the planning, design and management of river restoration, streambank stabilization, wetland restoration and other stormwater and restoration related design projects. Responsibilities would include coordination of project teams, client contact and communication, review of designs for quality assurance and control, providing engineering evaluations, technical reports, specifications, design plans, construction schedules and cost estimates.
 
You would work as part of a turn-key restoration project delivery team including land acquisition, design, permitting, construction, monitoring and maintenance; collaborate with a talented team of fisheries biologists, ecologists, geomorphologists, land acquisition specialists, and regulatory experts; and lead local restoration design and implementation efforts.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in an engineering field (such as but not limited to civil engineering, agricultural engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering or natural resources engineering, etc.).
  • A registered PE in one or more of the States in Region, or ability to obtain via reciprocity.
  • Superior writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) with attention to detail.
  • Experience with coordinating and managing teams of engineers, designers, landscape architects, and ecologists.
  • Experience managing subconsultants and subcontractors to deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Familiarity with restoring riverine, stream, wetland, and floodplain systems in a diverse range of geographic settings including stream and wetland restoration design.
  • Experience designing green stormwater infrastructure, floodplain analyses, hydraulic and hydrology modeling including stormwater BMP design and construction oversight experience in urban and rural settings.
  • Experience designing edge of field and/or in field solutions in agricultural settings (e.g., filter strips, bioreactors, saturated buffers, etc.).
  • Have conducted grade checks, performed bid spec reviews, and has evaluated contract performance milestones in the field.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Micro-Station, Grading Applications within CADD, GIS, and/or Hydrologic Modeling software (HEC-RAS).
  • Ability to travel to sites as needed. Overnight stays are occasionally required.
  • Stays current with relevant statutes, regulations, ordinances, as they relate to water resources engineering.
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs.
