Intertek is searching for a Project Specialist to join our Building & Construction team in our Hillside, IL office. 

As part of Intertek’s Building and Construction division, the Building Science Solutions (BSS) group is specifically focused on building enclosure commissioning, consulting, and testing for new construction and exiting building projects. We are a diverse team of architects and engineers encompassing a wide variety of disciplines, licenses and expertise. With team members who have developed a number of specifications, industry guidelines and test methods, we are recognized leaders in the building industry. We are looking for entry-level staff to become part of our team.
 
What you’ll do:

  • Update personal knowledge and skills necessary to remain current with building and construction industry practices
  • Assist and perform inspection work at project sites
  • Assist with field testing at site
  • Prepare reports for inspection and testing work
  • Work with Project Managers on design, inspection, and investigative projects
  • Other duties as assigned
 
What it takes to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Architectural Engineering preferred
  • 0 to 3 years of building enclosure or building construction industry experience preferred
  • Ability to read and understand architectural, engineering and shop drawings associated with assigned projects
  • Technical knowledge of building construction
  • Good technical writing skills as well as consistent and professional interaction and communication with clients and project team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products such as Excel and Word, as well as Bluebeam.
  • The ability to quickly learn and enforce standardization in the construction environment
  • Ability to perform work from scaffolding, ladders, boom-lifts, roof levels, etc.
  • Ability to climb stairs, bend, crawl, reach overhead, push, pull or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform office tasks and physical labor tasks and be comfortable in both indoor office and outdoor construction environments
  • Local and overnight travel as required for assigned projects and tasks
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record (required)
  • Fluent in English for the safe and effective performance of the job

About the Team

The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.
