Software Engineer

Form Energy’s approach to energy storage business development is uniquely data-driven and backed by an industry-leading analytics and optimization suite called Formware. As a software engineer on the Formware team, early projects may include building a database of open data about the power grid, setting up infrastructure-as-code for constrained optimization algos, or moonlighting as a data analyst to discover opportunities to improve our analytics libraries. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your software and data experience to make a direct impact on climate change as part of a fast-growing team.

What You'll Do:

  • Build an ecosystem of software tools that compute the value of multi-day energy storage for a deeply decarbonized power grid—CLIs, Python libraries, web tools, data pipelines, etc
  • Collaborate with Product and other stakeholders to determine requirements for new features and support technical users
  • Nerd out about PPAs, CCAs, IRPs, LMPs, LCOEs, and ELCCs with energy market experts (ok if you’re excited to learn!)
  • Advocate for software engineering best practices across the company, and lead by example
  • Act as a collaborative member of a distributed software engineering team

What You'll Bring:

  • Minimum 3+ years of professional software engineering experience. Senior roles are also available.
  • Experience developing data-intensive software systems in Python. Our stack also includes React, AWS, Snowflake, Dagster, CPLEX, and Pulumi—preference for candidates with who are familiar with these (or similar)
  • Track record of owning critical infrastructure, leading to hard-won wisdom about the needs of production software systems
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving that blends good judgement, clear communication, dependable follow-through, creative use of resources, and joy in the process
  • Background in renewables, storage, or utilities, or strong desire to learn
