The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Water Rights has an opening for a Water Resources Control Engineer in the Instream Flows Unit. The position is located at 1001 I Street, 14th Floor, Sacramento, right in the heart of downtown next to light rail stations and other public transportation.

Duties: 
Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor of the Instream Flows Unit, the incumbent will work as a member of an interdisciplinary team tasked with the development of drought response actions necessary to protect water quality objectives and beneficial uses in priority watersheds throughout the State.  The incumbent will perform engineering analyses, research, and modeling assignments related to determining and implementing drought response actions throughout California. This work includes collection and interpretation of hydrologic and other data relating to stream morphology and alteration, reservoir operations, erosion, stream flow, water quantity and quality relationships, and water use. The incumbent will also evaluate water supply and demand to inform the implementation of curtailments or other actions to ensure implementation of the water rights priority system and any established instream flow requirements. Assignments will also require compilation and evaluation of existing water rights, as well as prioritization of water rights based on priority dates. The incumbent will evaluate flow recommendations provided by fisheries agencies relative to available water supplies, beneficial uses, demand, and other relevant factors, and subsequently evaluate hydrological, geological, environmental, water supply, and other potential effects of implementing flow requirements.
