Entry-Level Civil Engineer (Stormwater/Environmental Services)
 
The Water Environment Group at GBA is looking for an entry-level Civil Engineer to support their stormwater and environmental projects in the Lenexa, Kansas office. GBA services include field data collection, studies and master planning, design, and construction management services. Project work may include stream restoration, lake repairs and rehabilitation, wetland design, bridge and culvert analysis and design, and slope stabilization, among other things. The ideal candidate should be prepared for a wide variety of work, be highly motivated and have a desire to learn geomorphologic principles.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the collection of data in the field including but not limited to streams/open channel systems, enclosed (conduit and structures) storm sewer systems. 
  • Work with various software packages (GIS, AutoCAD, or MicroStation) to produce figures, exhibits, and/or drawings under the supervision of Senior Technical or Engineering Staff.  
  • Review existing reports and studies for information related to studies and design projects.
  • Prepare written studies and project design technical reports with supervision by senior staff.
  • Prepare calculations, designs and specifications with supervision by senior staff.
  • Create and update hydrologic and hydraulic computer models such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and associated software packages.
  • Oversight of construction observation activities.
Required Education/Experience:

  • BS in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering degree
  • 0 - 3 years of experience
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam or be registered to take it
  • Possess effective communication skills both written and oral
  • Must be able to work effectively both on a team and individually
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as wading in streams
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Word, Excel & GIS Mapping software is a plus
  • Previous internship experiences are a plus
Travel:

  • Some occasional project site travel will be required
  • Some overnight travel to project sites and other GBA offices will be necessary for this position
