Data Manager, Business Development

The Data Manager is responsible for the quality, retention and reuse of information, data and documents in and relating to the Office of Business Development (BD). The data manager will analyze existing and new vendor software; define requirements and implementation of software/functionality that enables efficient creation, maintenance and reporting of organization information related to intellectual property, agreements involving Fred Hutch intellectual property (IP) and revenue generated from this IP. The incumbent will manage projects, define and maintain business processes associated with BD data, documents and information. They will also create and maintain communication channels to highlight BD’s data, documentation, information and IP. 

Responsibilities


Project Management
Understand organizational and department goals, and identify department’s needs to reach goals. Define and manage projects that implement resources and processes to reach these goals, including identification and prioritization of projects tasks, management of project and responsible parties in completion of tasks throughout the project lifecycle.
 
Process Improvement
Improve efficiency of department processes and software through understanding the existing processes or business requirements, collect and analyze data, recommend alternative solutions and implement best solution; document the necessary business processes and technical requirements.
 
Manage Vendor and Internal Business Relationships
Analyze, test and implement existing or new vendor software solutions that fulfill business needs or improve existing processes. Work with vendors regarding functionality needs, coordinate implementation of new software and upgrades with IT, update processes and communicate changes to department and other stakeholders. 
 
Data Quality and Accuracy
Develop and implement information analysis tools and business processes that allow for the review and correction of data in Inteum. Proactively document and define department information; develop, implement and monitor SOPs for information’s quality, retention and reuse. Work with and train entire BD staff to ensure Inteum is accurately maintained, that rules and roles for data entry and ownership are clearly defined. Monitor department information quality on a regular basis, determine cause for errors and correct business processes where quality is not being maintained
 
Design and Development
Work with appropriate parties to identify, define requirements, test and implement system enhancements to improve department goals.
 
Reporting
Work with BD leadership to determine strategic, financial, marketing and procedural reporting needs. Develop moderately complex to complex reports through use of various tools and software. 
 
Documentation
Create, manage and maintain consumer documentation made available via the intranet, internet, and other BD communication channels. 
 
Compliance
Define process and manage invention reporting required by federal and private grantors. Update process and SOPs as required by regulation and system changes dictate.


Qualifications


Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience engineering business processes, leading the continuous improvement of business processes and writing and monitoring SOPs related to data capture, retention and reuse.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge and principles to evaluate and address business issues/opportunities and to meet the business technical needs of the department/division
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with consultative, project management, and change management skills
  • Experience with methods of analyzing, programming, designing, testing and implementing computer-based systems
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and adapt to the changing business environment and to develop solutions to meet changing needs
  • The ideal candidate must have an independent work initiative, strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a diplomatic demeanor
  • Ability to evaluate data, make judgments and recommendations regarding department/division information systems

Preferred qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years relevant database experience
  • Previous data management experience in a technology transfer office
  • Experience with contracts and agreements
  • Some knowledge of the biological or biomedical sciences
