Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is actively seeking a highly qualified Geotechnical Engineer with a passion for developing software applications that require geotechnical modeling and analysis. You will join a diverse multi-disciplined collaborative team of engineers and developers to build novel solutions for the US defense and Intelligence communities. Geotechnical Engineer Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will have an active interest in combining your geotechnical background with software development. Your day-to-day work will consist of engineering research and analysis, software development, and software testing, including the evaluation of algorithm and system performance. The candidate should demonstrate an initiative in problem-solving and a desire to incorporate novel solutions for complex problems.

Required Geotechnical Engineer Qualifications:
  • The nature of work (i.e. interactions with the intelligence community and DoD programs) requires the eligibility to apply for and hold a US security clearance; selected applicants will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements at the time of employment
  • BS in Civil / Geotechnical Engineering / Geology / Engineering / Computer Science along with 5-7 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong foundation in software development and experience with Python, Java, and/or C++
  • Knowledge of soil and rock mechanics to support geotechnical research and analysis
  • Demonstrated experience going from problem statement to prototype to production-ready algorithms
  • Team player with excellent presentation and written/oral communication skills

Additional Geotechnical Engineer Desirable Qualifications:
  • MS / PhD in Civil / Geotechnical Engineering / Geophysics / Computer Science 
  • Experience with GIS, geospatial data formats, coordinate reference systems, and tools such as GDAL, QGIS, or ArcGIS
  • Interest in Machine Learning, 2D/3D visualization, and modeling, or performance/memory management
  • Ability and desire to quickly learn new domains
  • Experience working on intelligence and DoD programs
  • Prior/existing security clearance
