Stories Program Marketing Intern

Texas Folklife’s Stories program seeks a Spring 2022 intern to assist with current projects.

The Stories intern will be part of a small and dynamic team working to preserve and present the diverse culture and traditions of the people of Texas. The intern will work closely with the Stories program director to support implementation of current projects.

Intern duties will include: 
  • Assist with program-specific marketing & outreach for current projects
  • Work with program director and marketing coordinator to maintain lists of media and community contacts, partner orgs, etc.. 
  • Regularly update program contacts list
  • Post to community calendars and assist with online promotion as needed
  • Create and maintain a program-specific outreach calendar
  • Assist program director with writing promotional copy, press releases, and creating graphics for promotional materials, general outreach
  • Assist with program-specific virtual events and workshops as needed, potentially some in-person events
  • Assist with producing media content as needed
  • Meet weekly with the program director and report on current progress

Location: 
  • Mostly remote. Community-based projects occasionally involve in-person events (on average less than 1x/month). The intern should be based in the Austin area. 

Hours: ~ 10 hrs/wk

Experience / Background
  • Previous coursework in arts management, non-profit marketing, or related field
  • Current junior or senior in an undergraduate program or master’s degree student

Required Skills
  • Organized and attentive to detail
  • Understanding of arts or non-profit marketing
  • Excellent written communication skills 
  • Familiarity with Google Suite
  • Previous internship experience

Preferred skills / experience 
  • Experience working or volunteering with either an arts organization or an education/media focused-non-profit
  • Interest in audio storytelling, podcasting, folklore, oral history, youth media
  • Some experience with event production, content production
  • Basic audio and video editing skills
