You are not applying for a specific position. Applying to this pipeline requisition will put you in a candidate pool that will be viewed by technical leaders and recruiters for opportunities across the company.

Are you looking to strengthen your skills in Electrical and Computer Engineering while helping to apply cutting-edge technologies to solve problems of national significance in the public interest? The MITRE Corporation is seeking to hire highly-motivated undergraduate and graduate entry-level new grads with skills that span the gamut of EE/ECE topics, from antenna and sensor design to developing and securing hardware, firmware and embedded software, to modeling and simulation, applied signal processing and commercial and military communications systems. MITRE’s early career staff are supported in team environments and offered several enrichment opportunities, from internal “learning paths” to hackathons to our internal edition of the embedded Capture-The-Flag (eCTF) competition. What’s best? your ideas and contributions will help to make the world a safer place.

What do Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering New Grads do?
MITRE’s Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering staff help to design, analyze, and implement state-of-the-art communications and electronic systems across a diverse set of environments. New grads are typically given specific task assignments that help support broader ongoing research and development projects. Activities range from research and literature review to modeling and simulation, engineering analysis and prototype development, antenna design and fabrication, photonics, and data collection and analysis, including field test exercises.

What are some examples of recent tasks?
  • Designed and verified real-time signal processing modules for a FPGA implementation of next generation military GPS receivers
  • Used software defined radios to implement communication protocols and perform signal analysis using statistics and machine learning
  • Investigated optimal quantization strategies for GPS receivers in the presence of adversarial jamming
  • Implemented custom test and analytical tools to evaluate impacts of spectrum co-use between DoD assets and commercial LTE signals
  • Researched and recommended error correction coding techniques for physically unclonable functions (PUFs) in the presence of attackers with physical access
  • Co-taught a two-week course on embedded security to high school students
  • Worked in the remote sensing department to create masks to block out clouds (unwanted information)
  • Developed C++ code to interact with custom hardware peripherals to provide status and control interfaces to higher-level software on a complex SoC prototype
  • Developed simulation tools to predict the navigation performance of satellites or other space vehicles

What knowledge, skills and attributes does MITRE look for in students that they hire for Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering positions?
  • Currently pursuing and/or recently obtained a Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or similar field, with an interest and/or a strong foundation in at least one technical EE/ECE sub-discipline
  • Interest and breadth in several sub-disciplines within EE/ECE, including information and coding theory, digital signal processing, wireless communications, computer architecture, embedded software, embedded security, cryptography, analog design, RF/EM, sensors and antennas, power systems, and software architecture and design
  • Sustained excellence in academic performance
  • High level desire to help their nation solve its most critical problems
  • Exhibits the characteristics of a continuous learner
  • Many of our jobs welcome those students who have an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving
