Summer Intern, Podcast Editor - Part-Time (R-2021-12-226)

Position Type: Internship
Session: Summer 2022
Location: Remote
SiriusXM, Pandora and Stitcher have joined together to create the leading audio entertainment company in the U.S. Together, we are uniquely positioned to lead a new era of audio entertainment by delivering the most compelling subscription and ad-supported audio experiences to millions of listeners -- in the car, at home and on the go. Our talent, content, technology and innovation continue to be at the forefront, and we want you to be a part of it! Our interns don't make coffee. They're on-air, writing code, working on projects and making valuable contributions to the company. Join our internship program and learn about the world of audio entertainment and get hands-on experience in your field of study.
Position Summary:
Stitcher is seeking an intern interested in learning how to edit podcasts. Fun fact: people use the term “editing” in podcasting in different ways. This position is focused on story and content editing, not audio editing (i.e. the sound design or engineering use of the term). The intern will be a part of the team responsible for editing shows across the company – from thoughtful weeklies, like Unladylike and The Sporkful, to serialized narrative documentaries, like Unfinished and Verified. Applications without cover letters won’t be considered. Show us you know what we do, listen to the shows we make, and want to work with us!
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist Stitcher’s team of editors in giving feedback and guidance on a wide range of podcasts – from documentary series produced by Stitcher’s Witness Docs team to weekly chat shows.
  • As needed, help production teams by researching sources for ongoing series, sending booking requests, preparing background research for hosts, looking for archival materials, etc.
  • Participate in team meetings and creative collaboration.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Internships are open to current students enrolled at a university and recent graduates who graduated within the 12-month period prior to the start of the internship.
  • Current or previous enrollment in journalism classes preferred.
  • Experience with digital audio editing is a plus, but not required.
Requirements and General Skills:
  • Familiarity with SiriusXM and Stitcher programming and a passion for podcasts – bonus points if you’re already making your own! (We will ask you in the application process to describe what Stitcher is and does – you should research this!)
  • Commitment to excellent storytelling and thoughtfulness about what makes a good story
  • Flexibility and a can-do attitude. Stitcher makes a wide range of podcasts. We need you to be up for anything and able to adapt to the needs of different shows.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills. Especially in a remote environment, it’s crucial that you’re able to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with your supervisor.
  • Attention to detail and strict adherence to the highest journalistic standards and ethics.
  • Well-organized, energetic, independent and responsive to feedback.
  • Strong spelling, grammar, proofreading and editing skills.
  • Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
Technical Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Experience with ProTools or other audio editing software preferred, but not required.
Please note that all SiriusXM internships are paid.
