Staff Accountant - Finance and Budgeting

SSRC’s Finance Department is looking for an organized and energetic staff accountant. In this position, you will perform a variety of professional accounting functions involving budgeting, reconciliations, and grant administration. The ideal candidate would have nonprofit experience and grant, government, or project accounting experience. 

Responsibilities
Finance and Budgeting
  • Review monthly corporate card accounting and perform monthly follow-ups and correspondence with staff on outstanding balances
  • Reconcile and follow up on outstanding staff travel advances and reimbursements
  • Distribute internal budget reports to program and department staff
  • Respond to staff queries
  • Assist with various annual audit functions, including 990 tax returns
  • Prepare and enter monthly allocations
  • Maintain the benefits database
  • Approve payments for processing
  • Assist with budget review and approval of expenses
  • Create and post reclassification entries
  • Assist with review of fellowship documentation for proper award documents, tax forms, and banking information and communicate with staff to resolve inconsistencies
  • Meet with all new staff and provide finance orientation
  • Assist with annual budget preparation
  • Administrative tasks including, but not limited to, file maintenance, creating and maintaining databases and spreadsheets, reconciliations, and various other projects within the Finance Department as needed
Grants Accounting
  • Review grant submission guidelines
  • Review and assist programs with budget development
  • Ensure grant applications are submitted in a timely manner
  • Review grant award documents and set up new grants in financial system
  • Record receivables and cash receipts in financial system
  • Prepare necessary invoices related to receivables
  • Reconcile receivables monthly
  • Monitor due dates for financial reports
  • Assist with preparation of financial reports to funders

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with two years of experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Intacct, or GP Dynamics; MIP strongly preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize daily activities to meet competing deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with others and collaborate effectively.
  • Good analytical, interpersonal, and email-writing skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adhere to Finance Department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to learn new skills and work on special projects on an as-needed basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a nonprofit environment.
  • Previous grants administration experience.
