Graduate Engineer

The San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) is seeking a Graduate Engineer 1 or Graduate Engineer 2 interested in water resources to join our Technical Services Department. This role assists in providing technical support for the planning, development, operation, and maintenance of the SJRA’s five operating divisions: Lake Conroe, Groundwater Reduction Program (GRP), Woodlands, Highlands, and Flood Management.
The SJRA is a public entity whose mission is to develop, conserve, and protect the water resources of the San Jacinto River basin. Its primary purpose is to implement long-term, regional projects related to water supply and water quality. SJRA delivers raw water to both municipal and industrial consumers and provides water treatment and wastewater services through the ownership, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure including: reservoirs, groundwater wells, surface water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, lift stations, and miles of open channel and conveyance systems.

Typical Duties:
·       Work under the guidance of experienced engineers to carry out engineering analysis, perform conceptual planning, and prepare project drawings and specifications.
·       Develop design and reference documents for internal use
·       Coordinate with field and office personnel for multidisciplinary project tasks
·       Perform field activities such as observations of construction progress, documentation of existing field conditions, and data collection
·       Attend and participate in project meetings
·       Review submittals from consultants including technical memorandums, calculations, plans, specifications, and shop drawings
·       Assist in the management of professional, construction, and other miscellaneous services contracts
Qualifications:
Graduate Engineer 1
·       Bachelor’s in Engineering from an ABET accredited University
·       EIT certification or the ability to acquire it within six months of hire-on date
·       0+  years of experience in the engineering field. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply
·       Internship experience is a plus
Graduate Engineer 2
·       Bachelor’s in Engineering from an ABET accredited University; Master’s degree preferred
·       EIT certification or the ability to acquire it within six months of hire-on date
·       1+ years of experience in the engineering field. A Master’s degree will substitute for 1 year of experience.
Other qualifications
·       Knowledge or coursework related to all or some of the following: hydraulics, hydrology, drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and civil site grading and drainage
·       Proficient with Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
·       Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
·       Capable of managing and performing tasks in fast paced environment
·       Knowledge of AutoCAD and ArcGIS software preferable
·       Knowledge of modeling software such as HEC-HMS and/or HEC-RAS preferable
