Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) is a multidisciplinary scientific organization focused on cancer, neuroscience, and plant biology. Located on the North Shore of Long Island, CSHL has an opening for an experienced Benefits Analyst in the Human Resource department. The candidate will be responsible for providing support to the Senior Benefits Manager with the administration of the Laboratory’s health and welfare program, worker’s compensation, and retirement plans.
 
Additional responsibilities include:

  • Conduct weekly new employee orientations, graduate student orientations as needed, and yearly CSH Graduate Student orientation and URP orientation
  • Process benefits enrollments for new hires and life event changes
  • Respond to employee benefits inquiries by email, phone or in-person
  • Handle the workers’ compensation claims
  • Administer the 401(a) and 403(b) retirement plans, including reconciling contributions; Fee Disclosure mailings; Summary Annual Report mailings; updating Plan Documents, SPDs and SMMs and prepare distribution mailings; Non-Discrimination Testing data submission; process prior service credit requests; identify newly eligible enrollees on a monthly basis; and year-end task to close/open payroll
  • Maintain Benefits Intranet pages and curate content for communications (weekly Labwide, Benefits announcements, etc.)
  • Maintain and update the online onboarding management system
  • Facilitate the onboarding process once offer has been extended and accepted
  • Process dependents aging out of medical/vision plans at age 26
  • Conduct monthly dental student verification process for dependents turning age 22, and yearly process each August
  • Responsible for the ACA 30 hours requirement, including monthly individual measurement periods
  • Process benefits invoices
  • Run BN100 report on daily basis, and before payroll processing
  • Run COBRA reports on a weekly basis
  • PCORI fees in June
  • Update Lawson with wellness requirement compliance activities
  • Handle Domestic Partner recertification during open enrollment
  • Process Pet Insurance enrollments and renewals
  • Review and copy disability checks
  • Meet with visiting students/scientists to review health insurance requirements for visa compliance, and follow up if stay is extended
  • Quarterly follow-up with employees listed on the Bungtown Audit Report
  • Process change in addresses for terminated employees
  • Handle SBU waiver process each August and December
  • Work with carriers/vendors on informational employee communications
  • Other duties as assigned
Position RequirementsEducation: Bachelor’s Degree is required. 

Experience: Three to five years of related experience.

Skills: Excellent oral/written communications skills. Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to handle confidential employee information with discretion and good judgment Proficient with Microsoft Office products. Extensive knowledge of HRIS systems (Lawson). CEBS designation preferred.
