Director of Annual Giving

The Advancement team at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is presently seeking a Director of Annual Giving to support fundraising activities that further the organization’s mission. The Director of Annual Giving will be an integral part of the Advancement team and will work to achieve annual performance goals, including total dollars raised, solicitations planned, and cultivation/stewardship progression. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Development, the Director of Annual Giving will oversee a robust portfolio of prospects and work with the VP on giving and relationship strategies for all internal and external stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Cultivate, solicit, close and steward potential and actual donor prospects up to $30,000.
  • Collaborate on cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors greater than $30,000.
  • Develop and manage an active portfolio of approximately 175 donors/prospects with a goal of making 100-150 visits/solicitations per year.
  • Serve as a liaison to the CSHL Association and organize the CSHL Association meetings
  • Develop tools, policies and materials to support the annual fund program and achieve development revenue goals.
  • Ensure systematic, direct contact and follow-up with volunteers.
  • Supervise activities of the Events Manager
  • Together with the Advancement team, help solicit attendees for events including Double Helix Medals, Golf Outing, Women’s Partnership in Science, major donor party, Dorcas Cummings Symposium Dinner Parties and other events.
  • Cultivate, oversee and implement other donor outreach events as needed.
Position RequirementsEDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: Minimum 5 – 8 years proven fundraising and community outreach experience. Experience with volunteer fundraising boards.
Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills. Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail. Enthusiastic and dependable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Raiser’s Edge fundraising database. Interest in biomedical research a plus. Some evening and weekend work required in order to attend events. Valid driver’s license.
