BioEngineering Co-Op - Fall 2022

Responsibilities


The Materials & Devices directorate is hiring students for co-op positions. The Bioengineering Division has opportunities in a number of technology areas including: Synthetic Biology & Bio Instrumentation, Cell and Tissue Engineering, and Biological Microsystems. Students selected to work in the directorate will be expected to work full-time during professional business hours. Students will be expected to work with multiple senior technical staff members and communicate effectively both orally and in written memos or presentations. The technical responsibilities will vary depending on the project assignment, which is tailored to the student skills and the Draper supervisor’s needs at the time the offer is made. Examples of technology areas in the directorate include: experimentation, cell culture, data analysis, fabrication, and documentation. This position will support Draper’s bioengineering programs including one or more of: mammalian cell culture, functional assays, tissue engineering, synthetic biology, and microfluidics and fabrication techniques.


Qualifications


Student must be enrolled in an engineering degree program with a focus on solving biological problems. Student should provide evidence of high aptitude and academic performance. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required as is the ability to work independently. Full time (40 hrs/week) is expected for the co-op period. Hands-on research and laboratory experience is preferred, specifically in wet lab work, microfluidic devices and related bio-instrumentation (electronics and software), electrochemistry, and/or biomaterials.
 
Applicants selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
