Information Technology Specialist I

Position Title: Information Technology Specialist I

Job Summary:
Under general direction by Information Technology Director, the Information Technology Specialist I provides assistance to develop, implement, and maintain the HWWS information system including personal computer network applications and operations, train and assists users of personal computers in resolving daily operational and/or technical problems.
Duties/Tasks:
·         Assures functionality, compatibility, and performance of  IT systems; effectively communicates IT issues to the appropriate party.
·         Provides excellent customer service by responding to users’ needs and inquiries.
·         Provides technical support, training, and assistance to employees for more complex issues; analyzes IT problems and implements solutions according to standards, guidelines, and procedures.
·         Under guidance if Director of I.T., performs network administrator duties and assures system stability, accessibility, and proper configuration of technical systems and components.
·         Under guidance of Director of I.T. checks network for operating efficiency, makes corrective adjustments to data management settings; assures system integrity and maximum uptime.
·         Performs computer trouble-shooting to diagnose, identify, and resolve system problems for more complex issues; documents call records and results.
·         Preserves confidentiality of any sensitive information.
·         Participates and functions effectively in a team environment by being positive and courteous with staff and general public
·         Performs other duties as assigned or required and adheres to all City of Harlingen Waterworks System policies and procedures.
 
Job Requirements
EDUCATION:                     High School Diploma or GED (required) and Associate’s or Bachelor’s (preferred) Degree in Computer
Science                
EXPERIENCE:                     Three to five (3-5) years of experience in an Informational Technology setting; OR an equivalent
combination of education and experience.
                                                
REQUIRED SKILLS:
·         Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
·         Must have work experience in the practice of technology management, system development, and systems integration.
·         Must have work experience in computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment troubleshooting techniques.
·         Must have work experience in networked systems access and security guidelines and performance tuning techniques.
·         Must have work experience in system backup and recovery procedures and techniques.
·         Must be able to work effectively under pressure, tight schedules and produce accurate and satisfactory results
·         Must know how to Install, configure, test, operate, and maintain computer and communications systems, peripheral equipment, and devices.
·         Must have knowledge in the practices of network administration, system access, security guidelines, web programming, and Internet technical knowledgebase services.
·         Must have knowledge in the administration and maintenance principles of network operating domains, relational databases, SQL, and Windows-based software applications.
·         Must have working knowledge on Windows Server 2016 and above
·         Must have knowledge on troubleshooting helpdesk issues
·         Ability to provide customer service to all employees at all levels of the organization.
·         Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems in a multiple operating system environment with specialized software applications and multifaceted hardware platforms.
·         Ability assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
·         Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
·         Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees
·         Ability to operate and maintain computer and peripheral equipment safely and competently.
·         Ability to read, analyze and interpret local government, professional documents and reports.
·         Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence
·         Ability to deal effectively with the public in frequent stressful situations
·         May be required to work flexible schedule and/or extended hours.
·         May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
